Fat inhibition of gastric acid secretion in duodenal ulcer
نویسنده
چکیده
In seven duodenal ulcer patients the effect of intraduodenal infusion of 20 ml oleic. acid on submaximal gastric acid secretion stimulated by a continuous pentagastrin infusion was evaluated before and after proximal gastric vagotomy. In the control tests 20 ml of saline was given. Before vagotomy, oleic acid evoked a significant inhibition of gastric acid secretion of 25 % compared with the controls. This inhibition was abolished after proximal gastric vagotomy. The difference in inhibition before and after vagotomy was significant (P-0 01). It is concluded that the vagus nerve in man plays a decisive role in duodenal fat inhibition of gastric acid secretion.

متن کاملInhibition of gastric secretion in man by intestinal fat infusion.
The rate of gastric secretion probably depends upon a balance between secretory and inhibitory stimuli; increase of the former or decrease of the latter may lead to excessive acid production (Thompson, 1962). As a possible cause of duodenal ulcer more attention has hitherto been given to increased excitatory than to impaired inhibitory mechanisms. Inhibitory processes originating in the duodenu...
متن کاملNeurotensin induced inhibition of gastric acid secretion in duodenal ulcer patients before and after parietal cell vagotomy.
The influence of the vagal nerve on the inhibitory effect of neurotensin on pentagastrin stimulated gastric acid secretion was investigated in seven duodenal ulcer patients before and after parietal cell vagotomy without drainage. Preoperatively, neurotensin inhibited gastric acid secretion, whereas no effect was found postoperatively. Plasma concentration of neurotensin was identical pre-and p...
متن کاملInhibition by secretin of the gastric acid responses to meals and to pentagastrin in duodenal ulcer patients.
The inhibitory effects of intravenous secretion on the gastric acid responses to a meal and to pentagastrin were studied in seven duodenal ulcer patients.A test meal of 10% peptone adjusted to pH 5.0 was introduced into the stomach and the Fordtran and Walsh method was used to measure the gastric acid output by monitoring the rate at which a solution of 0.3 M sodium bicarbonate had to be added ...
متن کاملComparison of ranitidine and cimetidine in the inhibition of histamine, sham-feeding, and meal-induced gastric secretion in duodenal ulcer patients.
The effects of ranitidine, a new H2-receptor antagonist which does not contain an imidazole ring, and cimetidine have been determined on histamine, meal-induced gastric acid secretion, and serum gastrin levels in duodenal ulcer patients. Compared with cimetidine, ranitidine was found to be about eight times more potent an inhibitor of histamine-induced secretion and four to five times more pote...
